A Sacrifice it was..........

"When you go home, tell them of us and say,
for your tomorrow we gave our today."
Sacrifice, a word that has selflessness written all over it, a word which when comes into action, overpowers every other emotion. Its a word that pumps in the heart of the world, giving away whatever it has in a fraction of a second. Its indeed the warmest of all human emotions.Be it the sacrifice of a mother, or a soldier bearing the piercing winds, it can never be repaid, its a priceless jewel.

Some nurture a tomorrow by sacrificing their today,
for some a sacrifice is all that they can give away.
A smile, a laughter is bargained with a tear, the world then fills up with joy and cheer.
For all the sacrifices that the world has seen,
its the beauty of selflessness that makes them pritine.
And as I stand today wrapped with the glory of the years that went by,
a sacrifice it is that has smeared my joy,
it has sealed it with an unconditionally nurtured bond,
I'm left amazed, is it really human?
Is it true that without a word, a condition, or display,
It was a sacrifice that gave us all a secure today....
I owe my life to the silent sacrifice,
since without it,
...................the world would'nt have been alive.

Sana, if that gives us happiness, how could it be a sacrifice..

Have you read "Celebrating Silence" by Sri Sri Ravishankar?

In doing things for ppl, we get a lot of happiness, but every endeavour comes with giving up on something else, thats what life is all about...if we want to plant a tree, we cant just sit indoors and plant it, we wll have to go out in the open, soil our hands, indulge in a bit of hardwork, its then that we feel happy, when the seed grows into a sapling and then into a tree..bringing with it a new tomorrow and a greener life:)

Hi Sana:)

You have beautifully, graphically and very poignantly painted the very essence of sacrifice.

When I read your poem two books came to my mind. One, A TALE OF TWO CITIES by Charles Dickens. Second, Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I am sure you know about these books.

In the first book, a young man gives up his life for the girl he loves so that she can marry another man she loves. In the second book, a poor mother sells her golden hair as a last resort to get some money for the maintenance of her daughter by a cruel couple who are in fact ill treating the child.

Of course, the sacrifices made by our parents particularly mothers are something we cannot compensate or comprehend. Those are the selfless sacrifices.

The sacrifices by our armed forces in guarding our country’s borders can never be calculated in terms of money and they are priceless. Our freedom, our pride, our independence, our security, our future, our existence--- depends on their selfless sacrifices including readiness to lay down their lives to protect us.

But something more attracted me in your wonderful poem:

SOME NURTURE A TOMORROW BY SACRIFICING THEIR TODAY.

These few words contain a profound truth. It could mean that a person is willing to fore go a present gratification for a future success. It could also mean that we have to make the right choice today for future achievement. This is a personal sacrifice made by a person for his own better future and will not come under the sacrifices which others make for us.

A great poem, beautifully written with numerous points to ponder. I think I only scratched the surface:)

Have a wonderful day Sana:)
